About Axe Throwing
If you haven't tried it... TRY IT! Welcome to one of the fastest growing and most unique sports in the western world, axe throwing. Just as everyone has done, the sport started with a couple of buddies in their backyard throwing hatchets at a tree stump. In the backyard (beer may or may not have been involved), Backyard Axe Throwing (BATL) was founded, and thus the sport of axe throwing began in 2006. Their expansion started in Toronto in 2015 and began moving its way down into the Northeastern United States shortly after.
Our founders were on a work trip in Connecticut in 2016 and went to their first axe throwing venue, and the talks of a potential start up arose. With both being from West Virginia, they wanted to have a brand and business that had meaning to their home, and thus the name and brand Country Roads Axe Co. was founded.
After discussion on first locations and the concept for the brand, they reached out to a local architect who was starting his own brand with his son, West by God CoalFired Pizza. The two sides found it fitting to bring these two young brands together and go all out on a never before seen and completely different concept for both the axe throwing and restaurant industries.
For Country Roads Axe Co. and its move into Pigeon Forge, our team wanted to have something special for this town and its visitors; they wanted something that many could resonate and find commonality with. Therefore, we took "Country Roads" literally and named each lane after a specific country road in the United States, specifically in areas where many Smoky Mountain tourists are coming from as well as well known local roads. We wanted a mix of well-known roads and others that most have never heard of but showcase what the phrase "Small Town USA" is all about. Specifically, Clopper Rd., where the famed song, "Take Me Home, Country Roads" was inspired from.
Today, although the sport is still in a growth stage (especially in our region), our mission is to bring our guests an experience that is completely unique and one that you cannot find anywhere in this region. The combination of a different axe throwing "AXEperience" and cuisine that competes with the best, we are Country Roads Axe Co. featuring West by God CoalFired Pizza.
